Call MetroPCS and ask for your ACCOUNT number. (They'll ask why, feel free to tell the truth or lie, its not their business.) You'll give that number, your current phone number and account PIN to Virgin over the phone, and unless something gets typed incorrectly, it'll go through.

Mar 29, 2017. #17. I did this last month, switched from cricket to metropcs for J7 free so I could use with my Sammy Gear S watch. 2 days ago, I switched back to cricket and all went well and my phone number ported back from metropcs. MetroPCS was a 'stand-alone' carrier ; T-Mobile purchased them about a year ago. The 'old' MetroPCS was a CDMA-based carrier and ran on its' "own" towers with some roaming on Verizon and USCC. Some older MetroPCS accounts are grandfathered, for now. The 'new' MetroPCS is part of T-Mobile and is a GSM/UMTS/LTE based carrier with some "850-roaming."

I am SO glad that I chose a T-Mobile based option (MetroPCS) with unlimited data. I normally use about 8-12gb per month. It was HELL when I was in a plan that only offered 2.5gb.
