I would guess that my system at home costs about as much as a Z06. I own a 3LZ Z06. The sound from the Bose 10 speaker system in my C7 Z06 is amazing. Don't let the low-class haters fool you. It's worth the upgrade. Bose spent a lot of money to be sure the sound in the C7 3LZ is amazing. The haters on this thread obviously don't own a 3LZ.

Like every Bose system since the original 901, the bass tends toward boomy with little deep bass and exaggerated mid-bass. The phase and frequency shifting settings (AudioPilot, Centerpoint and Driver) add more distortion than anything else.

Hello everyone, thank you for any and all advice given in this thread.I have an 87 Corvette that has the stock Bose system in place. I took the Bose head out and took a pic. Also here is a pic of the head I am wanting to replace the bose with. It is an alpine flip out dvd single din. It comes with the brain box, and an ipod hookup box.

I bought an amp off of Amazon. it's a 4 channel 1 ohm speaker system I wired it to the Bose speakers, and it works great, the amp was less than $150. I also changed the head unit to a Boss elite touch screen. i ordered from Crutchfield. also less than $150.
If that's all it did, it would be OK. But like everything Bose, they make everything complicate. In addition to changing the volume, it changes the equalization settings to (supposedly) increase the volume of those frequencies that get masked by road noise while not affecting those that aren't masked.
Fact is: the Bose speakers in C4 Corvettes have paper-based cones. With the passing years, the 'stuff' originally used to make the paper material 'stiff' has deteriorated, which allows for major flex along the paper surface when you crank it up. Flex = distortion, and lack of volume, and overall cruddy sound.
