The SAT is a college admissions test taken by students in high school. The average SAT score of 2023 high school seniors taking the SAT was 1028 out of 1600. 1 Possible scores on each SAT section range from 200 to 800, for a total possible score of 400 to 1600. NOTE: The SAT was completely redesigned in 2016.
Thirteen of the questions on the math portion of the SAT (about 22% of all the math questions) are not multiple choice. They instead require the test taker to bubble in a number in a four-column grid. All questions on each section of the SAT are weighted equally. For each correct answer, one raw point is added.

Rumor 3: The SAT Is Biased Against Women. Opponents of the SAT often argue the test is biased against women. This rumor consists of two parts: (1) that average scores for females are lower than for males, and (2) the difference in average score means the SAT is biased against women.
