The use of codes is intended to convey essential information quickly and with minimal misunderstanding to staff while preventing stress and panic among visitors to the hospital.
In emergency situations, the incident commander has the ability to waive certain policies and procedures in order to assure that immediate assistance is rendered to all patients coming into the hospital.
