One of the main challenges for educators during the pandemic has been successfully transitioning to online teaching, in some cases without adequate training. This article will address these issues and suggest effective practices for teaching Spanish online, especially in emergency remote teaching situations.
Given these considerations, this project focused on employing TILT practices in online college Spanish. This study compared groups of online Spanish students (N = 110) enrolled at a regional campus in sections of Elementary Spanish I and Second Year Spanish I. The purpose of this case study was to explore the perceptions and experiences of Spanish foreign language graduate teaching assistants in online language instruction through the lens of two theoretical models and their intersections, Teacher Efficacy and Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge.
Students are also taught art, music, and physical education in English. The program is designed to teach English- and Spanish-speaking children a second language through content instruction and everyday conversation. Each group of approximately 50 students has two teachers. One teacher teaches in Spanish and the other in English.
